The "Ascent" represents a selkie, a creature of Celtic myth, half human, half seal and is the first of a series of selkie sculptures. The "Ascent" sculpture is an idealized embodiment of the human spirit transformed and captured in this allegorical piece that shows a creature of Celtic lore. This selkie is transformed, as legend is told, into a woman from a seal and as shown here. She is swimming up through the kelp with one of her many companions from the ocean realm - a graceful sting ray. This work combines flowing form with strength and passion.
