My first encounter with the Honu, the green sea turtle, was in Hawaii. The native Hawaiian people have great respect for the Honu; it appears in an ancient Hawaiian legend as the Auamakua, a powerful spirit-guardian. The turtle is full of grace in the water, a real joy to observe from shore, ship or from a diver's perspective beneath the waves.
This artwork was originally commissioned by a patron in Hawaii. With her kind consent, I can complete a limited edition of 12.
The large revolving base is hand-finished solid walnut. The piece may also be purchased without the base: price without the additional base would be reduced by $100. Please indicate your preference when ordering.
